Chapultepec Park Section 3

Chapultepec Park, one of Latin America's largest urban parks, spans 800 hectares in Mexico City. The third section is part of the Proyecto Chapultepec master plan, aiming to reconnect fragmented areas, enhance cultural programming, and improve vegetation health. Estudio Ome, in collaboration with Rozana Montiel | Estudio de Arquitectura, focused on bridging the transition between the urban area and the more natural, forested third section.

The project began by restoring a deteriorating eucalyptus forest using agroforestry principles. Eucalyptus trees were cleared and shredded into mulch, combined with logs, young trees, and seeds to create nests that enriched the soil and supported ecological succession. The limited budget inspired the reuse of concrete slabs removed from old sidewalks and the reintegration of picnic tables. Paths, terraces, and benches were built with the repurposed concrete, creating a permeable pattern.
