Pilares

Pilares is a social-impact public project providing a multifunctional, inclusive space for the community of Iztapalapa. Estudio Ome was invited to bring the soft touch between the new volumes.

The patios and rooftop were planted with native vegetation from the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt, allowing small pieces of a larger landscape to coexist within the urban space. Plants like Escobo Baccharis conferta, Maguey pulquero Agave salmiana, and the Mexican sage Salvia Mexicana were incorporated, along with fruit trees and medicinal species such as Loquat Eriobotrya japonica, American elderflower Sambucus canadiensis, and Toronjil Agastache mexicana. Self-clinging climbing plants will invade the pink textured walls and lattice façade, inviting nature into the creative space.

Today, the space is inhabited by dancers, hummingbirds, photographers, gardeners, teachers, a cat, and more.
